Chapter 9
Monday and Tuesday were busy for Mitch as things began to move towards pre-production. He was called to the set for wardrobe fittings so they could start working. That was followed by a preliminary round table discussion and reading.
It was meant to introduce them and get an idea of chemistry more than anything. Very little work got done. They did receive a more complete script arc which would help him set the character in his mind.
He liked the changes theyâd made. Marcus was right, theyâd added a lot to his villain role, but it worked.
Things moved quickly at this stage. Rehearsals wouldnât start this soon but when they did, they probably wouldnât take long before actual filming started. It wasnât like stage acting where there might be months of rehearsals before opening night.
In an action movie like this one the stunts were what would take the time. Thursday afternoon heâd be meeting with the stunt coordinator. They would discuss what heâd be able to do himself and what a stuntman would do in his place.
Mitch preferred to do his own stunts when possible. It wasnât always. It had gotten harder as he got older. There were things heâd done in his twenties, and took injuries doing, that he could no longer manage himself now.
To be fair those injuries were probably why he could no longer manage some stunts anymore. He couldnât count the number of sprains, breaks, and scars heâd acquired over the years. It was those more than age that made his body creak in the morning.
Still, he wasnât past his sell-by date just yet. Heâd see what the coordinator thought when they discussed the choreography. Rich was someone heâd worked with before.
He already had a good idea of what Mitch could do. Heâd probably taken it into account when heâd started planning things out, knowing that Mitch preferred to do as much as possible on his own. Heâd do some assessments and then tailor the stunts further with that in mind.
Aside from that and the dinner on Wednesday night his time was his own. He was looking forward to the weekend at home to destress and go over the pages. And then heâd discuss Oliviaâs schedule for the following week before he decided when he was coming back to town.
He'd be fine staying at home until they started needing him on the set more, but not if it meant missing out on Oliviaâs free time. He sighed, as he once again wished he could steal her away for a weekend out of the city.
Someday.
Once his meetings were out of the way he remembered he still needed a gift for Emma. Something sheâd love, but that Olivia wouldnât find too ostentatious. He found a more moderate toy store and spent an hour going up and down the aisles, considering everything.
He had a sudden urge to get the girl a bike. He knew Olivia had been saving up to get Emma one for Christmas and hadnât quite made it in time.
